Minecraft pre-release versions are more stable than snapshots. They don't add much to the existing features or make many new modifications, instead of focusing on bug fixes. The Minecraft 1.18 update is expected to be released soon after the initial pre-release.

Pre-release version 1.18 of Minecraft

Differences between 1.18 pre-release 1 and the previous snapshot

  • The creators have reintroduced the Amplified and Large biome world types. They've been built to adapt to the new environment. From the world creation screen, the world types "Caves" and "Floating islands" have been eliminated. The transition between old and new terrain has been smoothed down. Surface elevation, caverns, and biomes will all merge together.

In 1.18 pre-release 1, there were several technical modifications.

  • The —report option in the data generator now creates whole worldgen reference files instead of simply biomes.

  • In survival, wrongly clicking and dragging the mouse wheel button over item slots attempts to place entire stacks.
  • By mounting a rideable creature, such as a boat, players can go outside of the world border.
  • Outside the world border and inside spawn protection, players might take or install water, lilypads, or lava.
  • The world order for the End and Nether is incorrectly initialized.
  • The newly added advances' namespace IDs do not match their translation keys.
  • The tabs Feel Like Home and Sound of Music are in the wrong folder.
  • When the user executes the /locate desert pyramid command in a desert super flat environment, the world freezes.
  • Due to lava pools overlapping strongholds, end portal frames are being removed. In the Overworld, bedrock does not generate in ancient pieces.
  • Deepslate does not generate below Y0 in forested badlands and badlands biomes. The End dimension terrain generation is quite sluggish.
  • Chunks are no longer loaded as non-entity processing in portals.
  • Villagers from the snowy plains do not spawn when the user uses a villager spawn egg on jagged peaks, groves, frozen summits, or snowy slopes.
  • In the desert, sandstone produces substantially less.
  • The cover might become inaccurate inside a biome.
  • Stalactites do not fall if there are blocks right beneath them.
